That was a good read! The obsession with human perfection seems very of our time. It's all very fascist, imo. Even low level fitness obsessed people who eat chicken, rice, and broccoli; it's all about removing pleasure for the imperative of physical perfection.
Thank you for commenting! I’m so excited to see someone new reading something I wrote!
I agree that the obsession with “perfection” is very tied into fascism, but I also will say that it isn’t new but the dissemination of it through tech and media has definitely made it WAY more normalized and common, which is going to lead to some fucked up shit.
I love that you bring up the removing joy in favor of “perfection”. I think that’s something that shows up for so many people in a wag less obvious way than someone like Johnson who is just such an extreme. I have seen so many people remove pleasure from the equation (and I can even include myself in walking that line, or feeling as though I should be walking that line), because it is so incredibly normalized.
Thank you so much for reading! I hope you stick around :-)
"The responsibility to live longer is on you the individual. It’s not the corrupt healthcare systems that prevent so many people from receiving adequate treatment, not our broken government that denies us universal health care, not the companies that contribute to our worsening climate, not the rich that profit off of it all. Instead it is on you, just you. If you wanted it enough, you would make the time, do the work, try harder, do better and live forever."
Absurd how these men feign altruism and yet ignore the most fundamental and immediate actions that could be taken to expand human lifetimes collectively rather than pursuing some absurd goal accessible to only a handful. Think this is your best writing yet!

This bit really sends me:
